FileFade Terms of Service

Last updated: Saturday, June 13th, 2026 1:48am UTC / GMT 0

Welcome to FileFade. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of FileFade, including our website, upload tools, download links, account features, and related services.

By using FileFade, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use FileFade.

1. About FileFade

FileFade is a simple, no-frills file hosting platform designed to help users upload, store, and share encrypted files.

FileFade is currently in beta. Features, limits, policies, and availability may change at any time as the service is improved.

2. Eligibility

You may use FileFade only if you are legally permitted to do so in your jurisdiction.

By using FileFade, you confirm that:

  • You are old enough to use this service under the laws that apply to you.
  • You will not use FileFade for illegal, abusive, harmful, or unauthorized purposes.
  • You will comply with these Terms and all applicable laws.

3. Accounts

Some FileFade features require a registered account.

You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your login credentials secure.
  • All activity that occurs under your account.
  • Making sure any information you provide is accurate.
  • Immediately notifying FileFade if you believe your account has been compromised.

FileFade may suspend, restrict, or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or abuse the service.

4. Guest Users

Guests may upload files without creating an account, but guest uploads are limited.

Guest users may have fewer features than registered users, including limits on upload frequency, file expiration, download controls, analytics, and recovery options.

Guest uploads may be automatically deleted after a set period of time. FileFade is not responsible for lost guest links, expired guest files, or deleted guest uploads.

5. File Encryption and Security

FileFade uses browser-side encryption for uploaded files. This means files are encrypted in your browser before being uploaded to FileFade's server.

The unencrypted contents of your file are not intended to be transmitted to FileFade. FileFade stores the encrypted version of the file, along with limited metadata needed to operate the service.

For key-based share links, the decryption key is included in the URL fragment after #k=. URL fragments are normally processed by the browser and are not sent to the server as part of the web request.

FileFade does not intentionally store your file decryption keys on its server.

Because of this design:

  • FileFade cannot view the unencrypted contents of your uploaded files.
  • FileFade cannot recover lost decryption keys.
  • FileFade cannot restore access to a file if the required link, key, password, or local browser data is lost.
  • Anyone with the complete share link and any required password may be able to download and decrypt the file.

6. No Security Guarantee

FileFade attempts to provide strong security through encryption, HTTPS, server-side protections, access controls, and limited metadata storage.

However, no website, server, browser, cryptographic system, or software application can guarantee complete or permanent security.

You understand and agree that:

  • FileFade is provided without a guarantee of absolute security.
  • Browser-based encryption depends on the security of the user's device, browser, operating system, and the JavaScript served by the website.
  • Malware, browser extensions, compromised devices, phishing, stolen links, weak passwords, server misconfiguration, software bugs, or future vulnerabilities may compromise security.
  • If a user's device is compromised, file keys, passwords, links, or decrypted file contents may be exposed.
  • If you lose your decryption key, password, or full share link, FileFade may not be able to recover your file.

You are responsible for deciding whether FileFade is appropriate for the type of files you upload.

Do not upload files to FileFade if you require a level of security that cannot tolerate any risk of loss, disclosure, compromise, service failure, or permanent inaccessibility.

7. User Content

"User Content" means any file, data, text, filename, metadata, link, report, message, or other content uploaded, submitted, shared, or generated through FileFade.

You retain any rights you have in your User Content.

By using FileFade, you grant FileFade a limited right to store, transmit, process, delete, restrict, and manage your User Content only as needed to operate, secure, moderate, and improve the service.

You are solely responsible for your User Content and for any consequences of uploading, sharing, downloading, or distributing it.

8. Forbidden Content

You may not upload, store, share, distribute, link to, or otherwise use FileFade in connection with illegal, abusive, harmful, or unauthorized content.

Forbidden Content includes, but is not limited to:

  • Child sexual abuse material, child exploitation material, or any sexualized content involving minors.
  • Non-consensual sexual content, revenge pornography, voyeuristic content, or intimate content shared without consent.
  • Malware, viruses, worms, ransomware, spyware, credential stealers, botnets, exploit kits, malicious scripts, phishing kits, or any other harmful code.
  • Files intended to damage, disrupt, gain unauthorized access to, or interfere with computers, networks, accounts, or services.
  • Copyrighted material that you do not own or do not have permission to upload or share, including pirated movies, TV episodes, music, games, software, books, courses, or other protected works.
  • Stolen data, leaked credentials, private keys, access tokens, authentication cookies, personal records, financial records, or other unlawfully obtained information.
  • Content that promotes, assists, or enables fraud, identity theft, harassment, extortion, stalking, doxxing, threats, or violence.
  • Terrorist content, violent extremist content, or instructions for committing violence or serious harm.
  • Content that violates applicable law, regulation, court order, or the rights of another person or organization.

FileFade may remove, restrict, report, preserve, or disclose information related to Forbidden Content when required or permitted by law, these Terms, or legitimate security and abuse-prevention needs.

9. Copyright and Intellectual Property Complaints

You may not use FileFade to upload or distribute copyrighted material unless you own the rights or have permission from the rights holder.

FileFade will only remove or disable content based on valid claims with provided evidence.

Copyright complaints should be sent to:

Copyright Contact: reports@filefade.com
Subject: Copyright Complaint / DMCA Notice

A copyright complaint should include enough information for FileFade to identify the allegedly infringing file or link, identify the copyrighted work, contact the complaining party, and understand the basis of the claim.

FileFade may request additional information before taking action.

10. Reporting Uploads

Users may report files from the download page if they believe a file violates these Terms.

Because FileFade uses browser-side encryption, FileFade may not be able to independently view or verify the contents of a reported file without additional evidence from the reporting party.

Reports should be made in good faith and should include as much relevant information as possible.

Users who abuse the reporting system, submit false reports, harass other users through reports, or report content merely because they find it offensive may be restricted, banned, or have their uploaded files removed.

FileFade may act on reports at its discretion, including by deleting files, warning users, banning users, preserving records, or contacting appropriate authorities.

11. File Deletion and Expiration

Files may be deleted automatically or manually based on expiration settings, guest-user limits, download limits, one-click settings, administrative action, reports, account status, storage needs, legal obligations, or service maintenance.

When a file is deleted, FileFade may permanently remove the encrypted file and associated database records.

FileFade is not responsible for files that expire, are deleted, are lost, are inaccessible, or cannot be decrypted due to missing links, missing keys, forgotten passwords, browser data loss, account issues, or system errors.

You should keep your own backup of any file you cannot afford to lose.

12. Download Links and Passwords

You are responsible for protecting any FileFade download links, decryption keys, and passwords.

Anyone with the complete download link and any required password may be able to access the encrypted file and decrypt it.

FileFade is not responsible for unauthorized access caused by shared links, leaked links, weak passwords, compromised devices, browser history, screenshots, messaging apps, email forwarding, or other user-side exposure.

13. Local Key Storage

Registered users may have optional local key recovery features that store file decryption information in the user's browser.

Depending on the selected setting, local keys may be stored unencrypted, encrypted with a local vault password, or not stored at all.

FileFade does not guarantee recovery of locally stored keys.

Local key data may be lost if the user clears browser data, changes devices, changes browsers, resets the browser profile, uses private browsing, or deletes site storage.

If local keys are lost, FileFade may not be able to recover the associated download links.

14. Service Limits

FileFade may enforce limits on uploads, file sizes, download counts, file expiration times, guest uploads, account activity, storage use, bandwidth, reports, or other service usage.

Limits may differ between guest users and registered users.

FileFade may change these limits at any time.

Attempting to bypass limits, including through multiple accounts, VPN abuse, proxy abuse, automation, scraping, repeated guest uploads, or other deceptive behavior, may result in account restriction, file deletion, IP bans, or permanent bans.

15. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use FileFade for unlawful, harmful, abusive, fraudulent, or unauthorized purposes.
  • Upload or share Forbidden Content.
  • Attempt to bypass upload limits, download limits, bans, access controls, expiration systems, or security protections.
  • Attempt to access another user's account, files, keys, links, or private information without permission.
  • Interfere with, disrupt, overload, scan, attack, reverse engineer, or exploit FileFade or its infrastructure.
  • Use FileFade to distribute spam, phishing content, malware, scams, or deceptive files.
  • Misrepresent your identity or affiliation.
  • Abuse the report system.
  • Use automated tools in a way that burdens or harms the service.

16. Administrative Actions

FileFade may take administrative action at any time to protect the service, users, third parties, or the public.

Administrative actions may include:

  • Deleting files.
  • Disabling links.
  • Warning users.
  • Suspending accounts.
  • Banning accounts.
  • Blocking IP addresses.
  • Restricting guest access.
  • Preserving records.
  • Cooperating with lawful requests.
  • Reporting suspected illegal content to appropriate authorities.

FileFade is not required to provide advance notice before taking action.

17. Privacy and Logs

FileFade may collect and store limited information needed to operate and protect the service, such as account information, upload metadata, IP addresses, timestamps, file size information, download counts, view counts, report information, and abuse-prevention records.

FileFade may store IP addresses for purposes such as abuse prevention, guest upload limits, banning users who abuse the service, fraud prevention, security investigation, and legal compliance.

FileFade does not intentionally store plaintext file contents or server-side decryption keys for browser-encrypted uploads.

Metadata from files, IP addresses, timestamps, and other similar data that is collected is not personally identifiable. All data collected is stored encrypted and cannot be viewed by FileFade server administrators or anyone else.

FileFade does not sell, distribute, or otherwise transmit any user data to any third party (unless required by law), nor will we, ever.

18. Beta Service and Availability

FileFade is currently a beta service.

The service may contain bugs, downtime, missing features, design changes, broken features, data loss, or unexpected behavior.

FileFade may modify, suspend, restrict, or discontinue any part of the service at any time without notice.

19. No Warranties

FileFade is provided "as is" and "as available."

To the maximum extent permitted by law, FileFade makes no warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, availability, reliability, security, or error-free operation.

20. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, FileFade and its owners, operators, administrators, employees, contractors, and affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages.

FileFade is not liable for:

  • Lost files.
  • Deleted files.
  • Expired files.
  • Lost links.
  • Lost decryption keys.
  • Forgotten passwords.
  • Unauthorized access caused by user-side exposure.
  • Security incidents.
  • Service downtime.
  • Data loss.
  • Misuse of the service by users.
  • Content uploaded or shared by users.
  • Actions taken in response to reports, abuse, legal issues, or security concerns.

21. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless FileFade and its owners, operators, administrators, employees, contractors, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses arising from:

  • Your use of FileFade.
  • Your uploaded files or shared links.
  • Your violation of these Terms.
  • Your violation of law.
  • Your violation of another person's rights.
  • Your misuse of the service.

22. Termination

FileFade may suspend or terminate your access to the service at any time if you violate these Terms, create risk for FileFade, abuse the service, or if continued access is otherwise inappropriate.

You may stop using FileFade at any time.

Termination may result in loss of account access, deletion of files, disabled links, and loss of local key recovery functionality.

23. Changes to These Terms

FileFade may update these Terms from time to time.

The updated version will be posted on the site with a revised "Last updated" date.
